Miami Fourth Estate’s mission is to build hyper-local, nonprofit journalism in all of Miami-Dade’s neighborhoods and municipalities. We believe every community should have its own local reporter dedicated to accountability, transparency, and to telling the stories of residents and issues that matter to them.

Our first news outlets were started in Key Biscayne — the Key Biscayne Independent and the Anti-Social Radio & Podcast. Our board of directors has many veteran journalists who know Miami and how vital strong local news coverage is to our society.

Local news is in crisis in America. But we’re doing something about it. These news and community leaders came together to rescue local news reporting in Miami’s cities and towns, where so many vital decisions are made, but where commercial news organizations no longer provide regular coverage.

Our democracy depends on residents having factual information. Our organization’s aim is to put high-quality, independent hyper-local journalism on a sound and sustainable financial footing.
